Who is the AMA? Why does it matter? 

The Academy of Model Aeronautics is the largest model aviation association in the world, and it’s open to anybody who’s interested in model aviation! With a membership of over 165,000, the AMA sanctions over 2,000 competitive events every year and is the chartering organization for over 2,500 model aircraft clubs around the country, so there’s almost certainly a chapter near you. 

AMA works to provide its membership with flying sites, insurance coverage, official contest sanctions, competitions, educational curriculum, and is the ONLY American organization that can direct participation in international aeromodeling events. 

AMA membership also includes a subscription to Model Aviation Magazine, allowing you to stay abreast of worldwide developments in model aviation!
